How to quickly connect to a Linux VM with SSH

Today we will show how to connect to an existing Linux Virtual Machine. In just a few minutes you will launch your Virtual Machine in Azure. Secure Shell (SSH) is an network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network.

Connect to SSH

You can quickly connect to an existing Linux Virtual Machine by navigating to the “Virtual Machine” blade in the Azure Portal. When you are on the page click on the “Connect” button. This will give you a command which you will have to copy in order to establish a SSH connection.

Linux - VM - SSH

Paste this command into your command prompt, BASH or anywhere that supports SSH. It will ask you if you are sure you want to connect. After answering yes it will ask you for your username and password. Provide your username and password, and after hitting “Enter” it will connect you to your VM.
