How to quickly connect to Windows VMs using RDP

Connect to Windows VM

Straight from the source: Microsoft Azure Team

For our Azure IT professionals and the IT professionals who want to start working with Microsoft Azure.

Today we will show how to connect to an existing Windows Virtual Machine. This will allow you to install an operating system within your existing operating system. So everything you do within this new OS is sandboxed from your primary OS.

Use Remote Desktop Control

Start by navigating to the “Virtual Machine” you want to in the Azure Portal. Once you are on the page, hit the “Connect” button.

After clicking on the button you will be asked to download an Remote Desktop Protocol (.rdp) file. When that is done open the file and Windows will give you a security prompt and firewall rule which you’ll need to allow. Make sure you use the correct account and put in your password. Then accept the certificate and you are logged into your new Virtual Machine
